LuRae Collett Caldwell, 77, of Vernal passed away on February 12, 2013 after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born on October 22, 1935 in Robertson Wyoming to Wiley Sylvanus and Erma America Billings Collett. She was the sixth of six children.

LuRae graduated from Uintah High School in 1953. She married Bryce Caldwell August 17, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. They adopted six wonderful children.

She worked at Standard Saddle Tree and then she worked with Bryce in the Family Timber business until 1970. They then had their own trucking business until 1980. They owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store for many years and after selling the store they started a mobile home business. She later was the Gift Shop Manager at the Dinosaur National History Museum where she retired.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities including Relief Society President, Primary President and taught the Gospel Doctrine class for many years. She served a mission in Brazil after retiring and loved teaching music to the wonderful people in Brazil.

She loved being in the Mountains camping, hunting and fishing with Bryce and her family. She loved music, the arts, traveling, genealogy, gardening and the gospel.

She loved her children and her grandchildren very much and enjoyed teaching and being with them. She selflessly devoted herself and her time to her family, extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother; Vene (Mary) Collett, sister; Vella (Pike) Jackman; sister Anna (Dan) Smith and sister; Alice (Farrell) Slaugh.

She is survived by her sister; Beth (Tex) Sweatfield of South Jordon, Utah, Children; Laura (Scott) Castor of Farmington, New Mexico; David Caldwell of Denver, Colorado; Darrin (Jennifer) Caldwell of Heber; Utah; Alicen (Derk) Hatch of Vernal, Utah; Michele Caldwell of Vernal, Utah; Michael Caldwell of Vernal, Utah; she was also mom to Sandy Anderson Grandchildren Dustin Murray, Devin Murray, Dakota Caldwell, Payton Caldwell, Miranda and Sheridan Caldwell, Danny Hatch, Chelsey Hunt, Dalton Caldwell, Dilan Senti, Mesa Caldwell, Kade Caldwell, Bay Caldwell, Holden Caldwell, she was also grandma to Jason and Shelly Anderson, Wesley, Leslie and Ben Kurtz; ten great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services for LuRae Caldwell were held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vernal 4th Ward LDS Chapel conducted by Bishop Jared Dansie under the direction of Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Interment held at the Vernal Memorial Park. Compassionate services provided by the Vernal 4th Ward Relief Society.
