Charles E. Rousseau Funeral in Savannah
Savannah, Ga. - Funeral services for Charles E. Rousseau, who died March 27, were held from the Sacred Heart Church.
A native of Atlanta, Mr. Rousseau was for thirty years supervisor of bridges for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. K.C. Rousseau; a daughter, Mrs. M. M. Ray, Sr., a son, Charles D. Rousseau; a sister, Mrs. W. E. Matheson, Atlanta, and four grandchildren, Miss Betty Ray, M. M. Ray, Jr., Charles Ray, and Charles Rousseau, Jr.

Charles E Rousseau was born to parents William Calvin Rousseau, Sr. and Caroline S "Carrie" Calder Rousseau, who married 8 Oct 1861 in Fulton County, GA, USA. His Mother, Carrie is the daughter of Captain Nathaniel Mann Calder, Sr and Lucretia Pilcher Calder.
Charles was the oldest son and child of Carrie, and William's third child and second son, that we are aware of. He first makes his appearance with the Rousseau family at the age of 7 in the 1870 US Census in Atlanta, Fulton, GA, USA.
In 1884, at the age of 22 he pops up at 18 Boulevard, Atlanta, Fulton, GA, USA, in the same boarding house as sisters Kate and Sallie, and brother William Calvin "Will" Rousseau, Jr. In 1885, he and brother Will are now at 16 Boulevard, again, in the same boarding house, but Katie and Sallie have moved on.
Around 1892 we find him marrying Katherine C "Katie" Murphy in Atlanta, Fulton, GA, where they lived through at least 1896. By 1900 we find them in Savannah, Chatham, GA, where they live the rest of their lives.
Charles worked for ACL - Atlantic Coast Line Railroad as a Bridge Builder Foreman. I would imagine a lot of bridges needed rebuilding back then and it was definitely in the family blood. His father and his brother Will were both stone masons.
Charles and Katie had three children. Baby Frank, born on Christmas 1902, lived to see his first New Years, but would pass away at the age of 9 days on the 3rd of January 1903. His big brother Charles would live to age 81, and his big sister Vivian to age 83.
