My grandfather was born in Detroit Michigan. His father was Henry from Ohio and Marie(Warner)Simpson his mother was from Canada the 1900 census report states. Not sure when Granpa was in the service but his draft card from 1918 reads that Grandpa was in the Army but was discharged from service because of a disability in the line of duty .
He met my grandma Kathleen Marie( Reno) Simpson , in Detroit Michigan ,and on July 11 1918 they got married. He was a truck driver as it said on the draft card.
They had my mom Florence Jean( Simpson) Fleury on Oct. 13 1919, the day before my grandpas birthday.
I was told by my mother that in some time in his earlier life he was a policeman for the Detroit Police Dept. walking a beat. In the 1920 census he was a Clerk for a Hardware store in Detroit, and in another part of his life by one of the census he was a salesman with beauty supplies, where he met his second wife , Lila Mansker, and in later years had him a cherry farm in Hart Michigan with his third wife Rose (Duval)(Baker)Simpson.
He divorced my grandma Kathleen (Reno) Simpson in Nov. 1929 and married a woman named Lila Mansker in the 30's, but they were Divorced at some point in time , and Sidney married the third time to Rose Marie (Duval) in 1941.
Grandpa was a pipefitter also and worked in Muskegon Michigan in 1954 in a basement of a paper mill factory where an accident occured and he and some other men were overcome by a broken pipe from a truck that carried chlorine . There was a lawsuit after that .
While on a trip through Kansas a year later in 1955 he had a heart attack and died and that is where Rose had him buried, in Hosey Hill Cemetery. Thanks to Norma Moore , one of Roses granddaughters ,I have been getting more peices of some puzzels of my grandpa Simpsons life told to me.
I really only remember seeing granpa Simpson a couple times as I was very young and of course he didnt live close to us at the time so we couldnt visit as my mom would have wanted . She never got to see the place where he was buried because mom and dad didnt have the money enough to take the trip from Mount Clemens Michigan to Weir Kansas . I am just glad that I and my husband got to make the trip for mom, and I felt bothe their presance there with us in the small town and also at the cemtery the day we visited Granpa's grave. It was a small cemetery for the size of the town there , we went also to the Funeral Home where he was laid out too and asked to see the papers they had on his funeral , and found out Rose his wife at the time had also bought another cemetery plot for herself there next to granpa but through her granddaughter , Norma Moore , we found out Rose was buried in Florida in another cemetery. Rose also has some family buried in Hosey Hill Cemetery not just Sidney .
