U.S. Congressman. During World War II he served as a SOM3 in the U.S. Coast Guard, (1943 to 1946) and after the war he was a farmer and a businessman. He graduated from Weber State College, in 1960, from Utah State University, in 1962 and was a high school history teacher. Entering politics, he served in the Utah House of Representatives, (1962 to 1966) and administrative assistant to Utah Governor Calvin L. Rampton, (1967 to 1970). He also was president of Ogden Stake, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, (1967 to 1970), chairman of the Utah Long Range Goals and Planning Committee, (1965 to 1967) and a member, legislative task force on Utah Government Reorganization Committee, (1965 to 1967). In 1971, he was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-second Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1981. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints until his death.
