Mr. John Richard Boyd Jr., of Cowarts, (formerly of Hopkinsville, Ky.) died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at his residence following an extended illness. He was 95.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Cowarts Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Roberts officiating. Mr. Boyd will lie in state from 10 a.m. until service time at Cowarts Baptist Church. Services will follow 10 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2005 at Olivet Baptist Church, in Howell, Kentucky with the Rev. Brooks Mayor officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville, Ky.
Mr. Boyd was born June 12, 1910 in Howel, Ky., to the late John Boyd, Sr. and Gabe Littlefield Boyd. In 1954, Mr. Boyd moved to Florida and was employed in maintenance and agriculture. In 1976, he moved to Cowarts, and was employed as a homebuilder with M.L. West Company. He was later employed with Home Oil Company as a maintenance technician. Mr. Boyd loved his church and was a devoted deacon, teacher, and church worker, and served in many areas of leadership. He was a member of Cowarts Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Boyd, Cowarts, son, David Boyd, Petaluma, Ca.., two daughters, Linda Sue Herbert, Winter Haven, Fla., and Sara Boyd Rey, Tampa, Fla., two stepsons, Kenny and Kerry Gibson, Alachua, Fla., five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Goff, John Thompson, Tom Shirley, Tim Shirley, Sam Spivey, and Jack Mullins.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Home Oil Company and deacons of Cowarts Baptist Church.
