Janice was born on Sept. 15, 1938, in Frankville, Iowa, a daughter of Walter and Esther (Hangartner) VanWey. She married Kenneth Brainard on Dec. 3, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa.
Janice and Kenneth farmed together for many years in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois, and later retired to Lena.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed cooking and baking many types of foods.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Lena; one son, Kevin (Janice) Brainard of Monona, Iowa; two daughters, Joy (Dennis) Panos of Lena and Janine (Tom) Tessendorf of Kent; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Sara) Brainard Jr. of Chisholm, Minn., and Kent Brainard of Monona, Donna, Becky and Jennifer Panos, all of Lena, and Derek, Greg and Meg Tessendorf, all of Kent; seven great-grandchildren, Kordell, Devon and Madison Brainard, Hailie Panos, Catie Altfillisch, Kaitlyn Busker and Jackson Panos; one sister, Marietta Muchow of Clear Lake, Iowa; and one brother, Ronald (Betsy) VanWey of Madison, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Arliss Aschebrook; one brother, Howard VanWey; and one granddaughter, Jamie Brainard.
Services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 3, at St. John Lutheran Church in Lena. Burial will take place at Lena Burial Park in Lena. The Rev. Rick Bader will officiate the services.
