Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. Educated at West Point, he was a Major in the Regular Army until resigning his commission to enter the Confederate service. Appointed quartermaster Colonel of the 8th Virginia Infantry, he was promoted Brigadier General in command of the Department of East and Middle Florida, in August 1861. Shortly after reporting to his post at Tallahassee Florida, he was relieved of duty due to poor health and died of tuberculosis in October 1861.
