Mary L. (Specht) Gilkey, 80, of Massillon passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Rose Lane Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 23, 1932 in Wooster to the late Miles and Elsie Specht. Mary graduated from Wooster High School. She worked for Rubbermaid and as a secretary for Akron Brass in Wooster. Mary loved to do latch hook rugs. She was a proud American and donated her time with The Chesty Puller Chapter in Cuyahoga Falls with her husband Allen who served as the Commandant. She was a very loving and supportive mother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Rose Lane Nursing Home and to the staff of Cross Roads Hospice for all of their kindness and love given to Mary and her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Allen; sisters, Jean Stype, Pat Neagle and Linda Blough and brother, Paul Specht.

Mary is survived by her son, Dan Kilgore of Canton and daughter, Beth Duncan of Shreve; grandson, Dominic Duncan of Shreve; sister, Lois (Roger) Kiraly; brother, Jack Specht; special friends Vivian Rafferty and her son, Tim Rafferty, both of Barberton and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel from 10-11 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Young Marines National Headquarters, P.O. Box 70735 Southwest Station, Washington D.C. 20024.
