Alice Beeninga, 95, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013.

Alice L. Klinger was born Jul. 10, 1917 near Monroe, SD. She grew up in this area and attended school in Monroe until her senior year when she graduated from Marion High School.

She married Earl Beeninga in Monroe on Aug. 30, 1940.

They live in Monroe all their lives. Her husband died Sep. 29, 1994 after 54 years of marriage.

Alice attended Freeman Jr. College and later graduated from the University of Sioux Falls. She taught in country schools for 12 years and in Monroe school 15 years before retiring in 1980.

Alice was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Monroe where she taught catechism and Bible school, was active in the Ladies Guild and was church pianist and organist for 50 plus years.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Beeninga and Bonnie Knauss and one son, James and his wife Holly; three grandsons, Darren and Ryan Knauss and Jason Beeninga; five great-grandchildren, Hayden, Ashley, Hailey, Oakley and Brianna, and two step-granddaughters, Carrie and Valeri.
