Daughter of Major William Ruffin (1797-1857) and Margaret Boswell Winfrey (1797-1839), Mary Eliza Ruffin married Adolphus Fenton Tucker and had six children. She died when she was just 28 years of age. She left a will dated the day before she died which stated, in part: "I give and bequeath unto my dear children, six in number (to wit), Margaret, Sally, William, Mary Eliza, Adolphus Fenton, and Agnes Wyatt Tucker, all my personal and real estate, the same given me by my affectionate grandmother Mary M. Dugar."
