Mrs. Fred S. Dennis died Sunday at 6:15 p.m., at Passavant hospital, Jacksonville, following an extended period of ill health, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 17 days.
Laura Effie Dean Woodmansee was born in Waverly, Illinois, March 28, 1870, being the daughter of John F. and Mildred Seymour Woodmansee, and spent her entire life in this city. She attended the Waverly grade and high school, and later was a music teacher. On October 11, 1894, she was married to Fred S. Dennis, and to this union six children were born, a son, Chester, dying in infancy.
Mrs. Dennis' chief interests were her home, her family and her church. She was a life long member of the First Methodist church, being active in music, first as organist, and then many years as a member of the choir until her health failed about six years ago.
Surviving are her husband, Fred S. Dennis; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Ladage, of Waverly, and Mrs. Margaret Luce, of Springfield; three sons, F. Lyle, of St. Louis, F. Loraine, of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Verne F., of Fort Lewis, Wash.; three brothers, R. E. Woodmansee, of Springfield, H. W. Woodmansee, of Carlinville, and W. A. Woodmansee, of Memphis, Tenn.; several grandsons and granddaughters, and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the First Methodist church, Rev. Francis E. Smith, the pastor, officiating.
Burial was in East cemetery.
