Per her wishes, Lucy was cremated, said she didn't want people standing around looking at her dead body. She also made arrangements to have her reclusive 19 year old cat, Blacky, euthanized at home and buried in a location she mapped out.

Right up until the day before she died, at 104 years old, Lucy lived alone and cared for herself. If you offered to perform some standard chore she would tell you, "I can do for myself... I have all day to do it." Lucy read extensively, fed the birds, cooked her own meals, cared for her cat Blackie and kept her own house. As a weekly visitor, I observed only a few exceptions to her strong independence. Her country home sat at the end of a long rutted dirt driveway; wisely she would allow her son, Don, to drag the trash barrel out and back on pick up day. She also allowed that the litter box could be changed, groceries delivered and the lawn mowed occasionally. I must confess Lucy was more politically astute than I and her house keeping more efficient than my own. October 4th 2009, a few days after one of our lively visits, she was admitted to Holland Hospital (room 205). X-rays showed heart damage as well pneumonia. Lucy passed hours later, until the end "fiercely" holding on to her right of refusal to medical intervention in her chosen path to a natural departure. Her stone was appropriately inscribed, "She stood her ground".

Douglas Community Church was FILLED with Lucy's descendants & friends! She would have appreciated the service. Lucy seemed to weave structure & tradition into our world. The service brought 'real closure' to her extensive family.

After her cremation by Rosedale Memorial Park & Crematory, there was a small, private burial in Saugatuck at ‘River Side Cemetery', on Thursday, November 7th, 2009 at 11 AM.

Lucy, and her husband Edwin Leroy Bulson, brought ten children into this world:
Edwin Leroy 1923 - 2012,
Thomas Joseph 1925 - living,
Robert Francis 1927 - 2009,
Doris Mary 1929 - living,
Grace Annette 1931 - living,
John Fredrick 1933 - 1943,
Donald James 1934 - living,
Donna Jean 1934 - living,
Leo Lawrence 1936 - 2008,
Bethal Mary 1937 - 1995.
