Jerry Richard Copley, 81, of Fairmont, passed away Saturday morning (March 16, 2013) in Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Kingsport, Tenn., on Nov. 10, 1931, a son of the late Charles Lacy Copley and Gladys Fleming Copley-Knight.

He graduated from West Fairmont Senior High School and attended Fairmont State College. He was employed by Esso/Standard Oil for 25 years and then became an independent entre­preneur founding WOW (Wash On Wheels) in Fairmont, working with Wilson Ford, and as propri­etor of Country Club Market.

Jerry was proud to have been a member of Fairmont Elks Club, the Fairmont Rotary Club, the National Rifle Association, First United Methodist Church, the Fairmont Field Club and the Kibo Club. He served our country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dixie Brown Copley, who passed away March 11, 2012.

He is survived by his two sons, Todd A. Copley and his wife Seth Anne of Deep Creek Lake, Md., and Chris Copley and his wife Sherry of Fairmont. Grandchildren are Chase Matthew and Emma Christian Copley of Fairmont, and Bayden Copley of Deep Creek Lake, Md. Brenda and Stephanie Dalton, and Michelle and Michel Harold and their children Abby and Ashley Harold of Maysville, Ga., all survive.

Jerry has chosen immediate cre­mation as his method of disposi­tion. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday. Immediately fol­lowing the visitation the family welcomes friends and family to an open house at the Fairmont Field Club from 6-8:30 p.m. to regale, recount and celebrate Jerry's life.

At Jerry's request, the following morning there will be a private family service for interment at Rest Haven Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers and in line with Jerry's requests, the family has requested memorial donations to The Rotary of Fairmont Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 12, Fairmont, WV 26555-0012; and Americans For Prosperity (http://americansforprosperity.org).
