Irene Aguirre, 60 years of age, was born February 17, 1953 in Phoenix, Arizona, entered into rest on March 11, 2013 surrounded by family and friends.
She retired after 35 years of dedication service from APS as a Metro Community Relations Consultant. Irene was a loving, caring, kind and devoted wife, mother, nana, sister and friend to everyone. She was involved in numerous community organizations, and received countless awards, commendations for her service.
As a founding member of the Avondale Neighborhood Housing Services, she took great pride in working with the Avondale Litter Lifters. Irene also promoted educational excellence for underprivileged youth in her works as a founding member of Avondale/Goodyear Hispanic Forum. Irene earned her BAS in Business Management from the University of Phoenix; she also received degrees from University of Oklahoma and Boston College.
Irene was a lifelong member of St. John Vianney Catholic Parish. She was well known for her enthusiastic efforts in organizing the annual New Year's Dances. Irene also served as a Eucharistic Minister and Fiesta Volunteer for many years. Irene will be greatly missed by all who loved her genuine spirit, love of life, great sense of humor, generous heart and infectious smile.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Gumecinda Villa.
She is survived by her husband Antonio "Tony", sons Tony (Marina), Alex (Ashley) and daughter Amanda Aguirre Celaya (David), eight grandchildren, siblings Yolanda Sanchez, Robert "Beto" Villa, Fernando "Fernie" Villa, Maria Dolores "Lola" Villa, and Veronica "Roni" Villa.
A visitation will be held from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, March 18th at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd, Goodyear, AZ; and from 9am to 10am, 10am Rosary, on Tuesday, March 19th at St. John Vianney Parish, 539 La Pasada Blvd, Goodyear, AZ. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30am.
