Jesse was the son of Jesse Lobaugh Gantt and Caroline Sheibley Spotts Gantt. He was the brother of Jacob S. Gantt. He was the husband of Rosalia (Rose) Garcia Gantt with her, he was the father of

Jesse was a bartender/pharmacist in his own bar in El Paso, before that he was a shopkeeper in Leadville, Colorado. Prior to coming out west, Jesse was in the U.S. Marine Corps and stationed on special duty at the Naval Yard in Washington, D.C. from 1886-1888. He was found in Leadville, Colorado working as a clerk in 1890 and was in El Paso, Texas by 1892.

Jesse was shot on October 23rd, 1914, while attempting to stop a hold up on the street. He died 15 days later from Gangreene of the wound. He left behind a widow with ten children rangeing in age from 24 years old to 10 months.
