Jacob Ackley served in the Revolutionary War, in the 2nd New York Continental Line. He served from August 1777 to June 9, 1783. His discharge papers were signed by George Washington. He received a Military Pension on November 27, 1790, New York, Pension #6731.

He first married Phoebe Jenkins on September 2, 1784 in Dutchess Couty, New York. Together they had 14 children. He remarried on Mar 27, 1837, to Marcia (Wood) Turrell, in Port Bay, Wayne Co., New York.
