3rd Pennsylvania Governor. He was a successful store and grist mill owner and served as elected Justice of the Peace of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. He was a delegate to the Pennsylvania State Constitutional Convention, (1789 to 1790) and was a member of the Pennsylvania State Assembly, (1797-1804, 1806 to 1807). In 1808, he was elected as a Democrat-Republican the 3rd Governor of Pennsylvania, serving until 1817. During his three terms, he helped his State deal with the problems of through and after the War of 1812. After leaving office, he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate in 1818 and he died before taking office. Snyder County, Pennsylvania, Snyder Avenue-Snyder station in South Philadelphia & Snyder Hall at Penn State University (PSU) is named after him.
