My mom, Eula May (called May by all her friends) Williams was born in Osage Co, OK on July 23,1908 and passed away on March 3, 1993 at San Mateo, CA while a resident of a local nursing home. She had been ill only a short time.
She was the daughter of Robert Pearl Williams and Delpha Arminda (Minnie) Woodard Williams. She had 4 brothers: Orville, Robert, Oscar & Clemmie and 1 sister: Opal. Her parents & all brothers are buried in MO. Sister Opal is buried in CA.
Although born in OK, she was raised in MO and lived there until she married my father, Willie Lawrence Simon (on October 25, 1925 @ Powell, MO). They came out to Oregon, stayed only a short time, returned to MO where their first child (a daughter, Darlene, who lived only 17 days) was born. Their second child, Lewis, was born in Cylone, MO. By the time Lewis was 3 yrs old, they were living in CO. Second son, Kenneth was born at this time. They "headed west to Oregon" once again, moving to the Portland area. Daughter Bette was born in Oregon City in 1940. I came along in 1946 with my family now living in Dallas, OR. They had spent "the war years" in Portland though. My parents divorced in 1949, my father moved to Salem, OR where he remarried in 1950. The rest of the family moved to Lebanon, where I was raised.
My mother eventually moved to CA after we kids were grown (living near son Kenneth & daughter Bette). She lived the last 22 years of her life in South San Francisco.
Her favorite passtime: playing Bingo with several friends on a weekly basis and "bus trips to Reno, NV". She loved those 10 cent slots . . . !!
My mom, being born in OK and raised in MO (both land-locked states), did not see "the ocean" until an adult, it was "love at first sight". I have many happy memories of times spent visiting the Oregon coast, wonderful times "playing on the seashore". It was because of her love of the ocean that I made the decision to have "her ashes scattered at sea".
I think my mom had a pretty hard life (she'd had a mild case of polio as a very young child) but she did her best. Not a day goes by that I do not think of "all the happy times", especially her last years. We were very close. She so enjoyed her grandchildren and dearly loved receiving photos and updates about their lives. She is truly missed.
