Joyce E. Berke, 72, of East Dundee, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 21, 1932 in Elgin. She was the daughter of Phillip and Etta (nee Moisling) Brockner.
Joyce was a lifelong resident of the area and has lived in Dundee for the past 53 years. She was the 1950-51 "Lady Elgin" for Elgin National Watch Company. Following the death of her husband, she began a career in Real Estate. For many years she was associated with Stark Realty in West Dundee. She was a long time and very active member of the First United Methodist Church of West Dundee.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Donna) Berke of East Dundee, Margo (Don Boe) Berke of Edgerton, WI, Karla Berke of East Dundee, Tom (Lori) Berke of Elgin and Jim (Heidi) Berke of Arlington Heights; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick, David, Cassie, Cory, Candra, Alex and Emily; many nieces, nephews, and countless good and faithful friends, especially her longtime companion, Gene Wells of Carpentersville, also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neal B. Berke on September 26, 1982; a daughter, Paula, in infancy; a son, Robert A. "Bob" Berke on April 17, 2004; and her sister, Verdelle Green.
Family and friends will meet for funeral services on Monday, March 14, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 318 W. Main Street in West Dundee. The Rev. Eun Hye Choi, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-5 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Monday in the church from 10 AM, until time of service.
Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, West Dundee or the Hospice Of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Avenue, Barrington, IL 60010.
