George Leslie Barnes, 85, who was born in Taylor County in 1882, died Tuesday, December 5th in the Metzmeier Nursing Home. Mr. Barnes had suffered a stroke several months ago. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday), December 7, in the Lyon Funeral Home with the Rev. D. L. Druien conducting the rites. He was a member of the Baptist church and interment will be in Brookside Cemetery. He was the son of Charlie and Ellen McNalley Barnes and was the husband of Nora Pendleton Barnes. Surviving besides his widow are the following children: Kelsy of Rt. 1; Ivan of Rt. 5; Garnett of Rt. 1; Leonard of Campbellsville; Mrs. Mae Cox, Chicago; Mrs. Elsie Read, Hope, Indiana; Evan Burress, Cincinnati; Charlie of Louisville; Mrs. Golda Sanders, Louisville; Mrs. Bertie Rohe, also of Louisville; and Mrs. Ruby Jones of Valley Station. There is also 36 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren surviving; as well as three brothers, Walter of Cincinnati; Oillie of Louisville and Ethel Barnes of London. Pallbearers will be Wilbur Barnes, Michael Rohe, R. T. and Cecil Gilpin, Jerry Jones, and Junior and Harold Cox.
