She attended Portland schools and was a 1949 graduate of Deering High School. She received her Bachelor's degree in teaching from Gorham State Teachers College. While teaching, she attended Boston University taking advanced classes in elementary education.
On September 20, 1952 she married Douglas Blake.
She taught in elementary schools including Kittery, ME for nine years, Ipswich, MA for four years, and 23 years in Weymouth, MA, retiring in 1987.
In 1988, she and her husband moved to Brunswick, ME.
She enjoyed oil painting, painting birds, animals and rural scenes. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Louisa was a member of Maine Maritime Museum and the Weymouth, MA Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving besides her husband of Brunswick are 3 sisters, Eunice Hurd of Falmouth, Selma Wilbur of Saco, and Laura Lewis of Portland, one brother, Alfred Milliken Jr. of Portland, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 27th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28th at 11AM with Pastor Neil Gastonguay officiating. Spring interment will be in Dunstan Cemetery, Scarborough, ME.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division, One Main St. Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
