Rooster Brooks, 87 of Copperas Cove passed away at home on Monday, March 23, 2015. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, March 27, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home of Copperas Cove with burial following at Florence City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Rooster was born on November 11, 1927 in Bastrop, Texas to the late Charlie and Beulah Criswell Brooks. He grew up in Florence, Texas and graduated from Florence High School.

Rooster spent 25 years with the Killeen Fire Department and retired as Deputy Chief. He taught and influenced many throughout his career and life. He will be remembered as a wise man who didn't speak much, but his actions and the example he set spoke volumes. Rooster possessed intelligence and great ability to accomplish anything to which he set his mind. He was a wonderful parent who sought to instill in his children the skills necessary to meet life's challenges. He imparted those lessons using discipline, humor, and love.

Rooster had many interests and talents throughout his life. He was a fisherman, a welder, a boot maker, and a saddle maker. His interest in saddle making came from his many years spent in Colorado as a hunting guide.

As a young man, he served in the Navy during the latter years of WWII. He was married to Nancy E. Henderson of Killeen from 1948 until her passing in 2003.

On December 18, 2004, he married Susan Wall Lynagh of Copperas Cove.

Rooster is survived by his wife, Susan Brooks and her children, Stefan Wall and Anna Wall; his daughters, Ellon Yoakum and husband, Bill, Kathy Stapleton, and Mary Ann Brooks; grandchildren, Terry Knight and husband, Eric, Christine Stewart and husband, Ryan, Veronica Wall and Ryan Wall; great grandchildren, Peyton Knight and Sutton Knight.
