Arthur John Brown of Milo died Sunday morning at the Nevada City hospital where he had been a patient for four days. His death occurred on his 65th wedding anniversary.
He was born on September 23, 1880, in Scott county, Iowa, the son of Newton Perry and Antoinette Catalina Garlock Brown. At the age of six months his family moved near Carleton, Neb. where he spent his early life. As a young man he worked on the Southern Pacific railroad out of Ogden, Utah, and was a fireman on one of the first trains that crossed the cutoff on the Great Salt Lake.
He married Rhoda Ellen Wheeler on October 18, 1905, at Hebron, Neb. They operated meat markets for nine years in Nebraska, moving to Missouri on a farm near Rockville in 1914. In 1930 they moved to the farm near Milo and upon retiring in 1959, they moved to Milo.
Survivors include his wife of the home; six children, Crawford A. Brown of Spokane, Wash., Max H. Brown of Falls Church, Va., Mrs. Albert (Iona) Wabaunsee, of Reno, Nev., Mrs. Allen (Mary) Laflen of Moundville, Newton W. Brown of Joplin, and Mrs. Leonard (Nancy) Curry of Milo; 27 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Dobson of Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Anna Dyer of Ellensburg, Wash., two brothers, I. N. Brown of Eugene, Ore., and O. C. Brown of Nelson, Neb.
Services will be held at the Milo United Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Curtis Ground officiating. Interment will be in the Milo cemetery under the direction of Ferry funeral home.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 6 o'clock this evening.

Services for Arthur John Brown, who died Sunday, were held this afternoon at the Milo United Methodist church with the Rev. Curtis Ground officiating.
Mrs. Lester Stockdale, accompanied by Mrs. LaVerne Leininger on the organ, sang "In The Garden: and "Where We Never Grow Old."
Pallbearers were Neal Brown, Donald Curry, David Curry, Jerry Laflen, Robert Laflen, Howard Sellens, Nicholes Pitts and John Laflen. Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Cochran, Floyd Robinson, Floyd Drumiller, Charles Cochran, Arthur Lang and Virgil Hensen. Interment was in the Milo cemetery under the direction of Ferry funeral home.
