Nora was born in Adams Twp. to David Foster Wyan and Jennie (Jan) H. Hahn. When Nora was five years old, her mother passed away and her father subsequently left the family. Nora and the other children went to live with their grandparents, George Washington Wyan (FAG Memorial # 90365502)and Mary Margaret Reed Wyan. They were there but a month when their grandmother, Mary, passed away. Their grandfather was left with five children. A cousin and her husband took the little boy (Emanuel, age 3), but the four girls were taken to the Darke County Children's home two months after the death of their grandmother. All except Sadie who was institionalized for her entire short life, were adopted (or fostered). Nora was adopted at age 12 by Ida and Frank (Shorty)Thomas (FAG Memorial #s 66268583 and 66268834). The Thomas couple owned the popcorn stand at West Fourth and South Broadway in Greenville, OH. Nora was married to Grover Cleveland Daugherty also of Greenville. Together they had one son, Eugene Hugh, who was apparently at some point adopted by Nora's adopted mother, Ida Thomas. After Grover's death in 1940, Nora went to live in Dayton near her son. Nora was remembered by family members as being rather flamboyant - a lover of candy, cigarettes, and alcohol who always wore a flower in her hair. How she came to be at Dayton State Hospital and prior to that, at the Montgomery County Home is currently unknown.

Nora's siblings:
Sadie B. Wion, FAG Memorial # 105569703
Emanuel Wion, FAG Memorial # 75131239
Charles, who apparently died young
Mary Catherine Wion Boehringer, FAG Memorial # 21217310
Viola Carrie Wion Sirch, FAG Memorial # 17615435
