John Henry Griffin has no grave marker, other than an unknown field stone. He is about 20 miles or so from where Sallie Ann Middleton Griffin Rowlett is buried. Sallie Ann also, has an unmarked field stone as a grave marker. It's very difficult to get to these cemeteries. You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Please be aware that there is no cell phone service in these big mountains. Highway 327 is a very narrow, 2 lane road with sharp curves and very small railing on the right side of the road. The overlook is as if you were looking out of an airplane window, it is said there is about an 8000 to 9000 foot drop off. This piece of the highway has no reflectors and you are on it before you realize it. It is actually carved out of the side of the mountain. The road markers of curves, etc are all down. The roads have 2 or 3 different names and when you're told to stay left at the forks in the road you best take the center road because 2 forks really means 3 forks.
John Henry and Sallie Ann are buried in the most peaceful and beautiful places. This is being shared with everyone because family needs to know where they are resting. Although we may not know exactly which graves they are in we do know that John Henry Griffin is buried in the Union Grove Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas. Sallie Ann Middleton Griffin Rowlett is buried in the Little Buffolo Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas. These 2 cemeteries are about 20 miles apart. The graves were found with the help of Professional Genealogists and have been confirmed. Special thanks goes to them. We appreciate the efforts of Marsha Glenn, a family member, for making this extended trip to these cemeteries to get pictures of the area and for contacting the genealogists. Without her we wouldn't have this information.
