CANASTOTA >> Robert D. Becker, Sr., 88, South Court Street, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2013, at Oneida Healthcare Center, where he had been a patient for the past five days.
Born in Canastota on July 1, 1924, he was the son of John and Ella Becker. A lifelong resident Canastota, Bob attended Canastota schools. He married Emma W. Carney in Oneida, on Nov. 27, 1947, a marriage of over 65 years.
Prior to his retirement in 1992, Bob was employed with the Oneida City Schools, working in the custodial department.
As a veteran of World War II, Bob enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in the Pacific and European Theatres receiving the Purple Heart as a war hero.
Bob was of the Christian faith and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his wife, Emma, are one daughter and son-in-law, Jeannine and James "Chico" Richmond of Canastota; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Susan Becker of Vernon and Robert and Joan Becker Jr. of Canastota; two sisters-in-law, Carol Smith and Eunice "Buzzy" Carney; three grandchildren, Valarie Prine and her husband, Christopher, Matthew Colvin and Ashli Colvin; three step-grandchildren, Melissa, Ryan and Tyler Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Becker and Jack Becker.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from Campbell-Dean Funeral Home Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, with the Rev. Rob Casler, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday.
