Jane was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada with her parents where she met and married Michael Boyer.
Jane and Michael Boyer are found in the 1851 Brant, Brantford County, Ontario census with their two children, Jennette and Abraham. Michael was working as a cooper and after the birth of their first 3 or 4 children moved to Linn County, Iowa, in the mid 1850's. Jane's brother, John Johnson Thayn married Michael's sister, Sydney Boyer, in Ontario, and along with their widowed mother moved west and settled in Carbon County, Utah.
Upon Jane's death in Lisbon, Iowa, Michael remarried in 1858 to Rachel Elizabeth Troup, fathered 4 more children before enlisting in an Iowa regiment during the Civil War. He lasted six months, dying of dysentery in a St. Louis army hospital. The family has a collection of some 40+ letters from him, army nurses and the company clerk.
Descendents of Jane and Michael kept in touch with half-sisters and brothers, including visits up the 1930's to Boyer relatives in Sebastopol, California.
