Here's a bio for Mary Hammer Baransky. She is the sister of my step-grandfather James V. Hammer.
Mary Baransky, 88, of Rt. 1 Fairmont (Monongah) died Monday May 31, 2010 at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Elkins on June 30, 1921 and was the tenth child of the late Frank and Rose Trimboli Hammer, Sr. Mary was educated in Randolph County Schools before graduating from West Virginia Business College in Fairmont. She was employed for many years with the WV Department of Welfare. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah and was a past president of the Ladies Society.
Mary was a loving mother, devoted wife and homemaker. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Rosemary and Dale Michael of Monongah and one son John Baransky III with whom she shared her home, two grandchildren Patricia Mary Michael and John Burton Michael of Monongah and one sister Rita "Sis" Hoffman of Silver Springs, Maryland. On June 28, 1949 Mary was united in marriage with John Baransky Jr. who preceded her in death on June 8, 1992 after 43 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband and parents Mary was preceded in death by one sister Theresa Groves Harness, and nine brothers Sam, Mike, Guy, William, Lawrence, James, Augustine, Eugene and Frank Hammer, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday June 5, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Monongah with Fr. John Mulcahy as Celebrant. Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Monongah. Pallbearers were Ronald Mudry, Tom Shelosky, Bernard Shelosky, Nick Scrivo, Gary Sedara and John Burton Michael. A vigil service was held Friday evening at 6:30 P.M. in the funeral home.
