Passed away peacefully on February 4, 2013 in Fremont, CA at the age of 93. Survived by her children Kathleen Bellini of Merced, and Michael Azevedo and his wife Ruth of San Jose. Also survived by her son-in-law Anthony Varni. Grandmother of 9, and great-grandmother of 13. Preceded in death by her husband Manuel Azevedo in 1987, and by her daughter Marlene Varni in 2007.
Born on March 12, 1919 to Mayme and Frank Roderick and resided in the Alviso district of Fremont her entire life. She attended Alviso School and Washington High School. In 1939, Eleanor married Manuel Azevedo, and they enjoyed 48 happy years together until his death in 1987. She was a wonderful mother raising three children Marlene, Kathy and Michael. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, working in her garden, cooking and traveling. She was proud of her Portuguese heritage and was an active member of both the S.P.R.S.I. and YLI. She was also a devoted parishioner at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. Eleanor has touched so many lives with her love and kindness. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 10, 3pm followed by a Vigil at 4pm, all at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 11, 11am at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, 34700 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94555. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA. Donations may be made in memory of Eleanor to your favorite charity.
