"Yesterday morning at 8:30, death claimed another from us. George H. Applegate, a native of this city and one of the most prominent among its citizens for years, closed a career of which any might be proud.

About a week ago, grippe laid violent siege to his system and rapidly developed into pneumonia, but until Wednesday no great alarm was felt by his family, when the physician announced that he felt no hope for the recovery of his patient.

For two years, George Applegate had been post master at this city and since boyhood connected in some capacity with the business interests of the town and during all these years, he has borne a reputation for ability, honesty and constancy to be envied.

Funeral services will be held today, Friday, at the Methodist Church at 3 p.m., Rev. J.A. Snarr in charge, after which interment in the city cemetery." Chariton Courier, February 16, 1917
