Carmen graduated from Culbertson High School in Culbertson, NE. and attended McCook Junior College in McCook, NE. Carmen married Eugene "Gene" Way Burchess on March 27, 1943 in Palacios, TX.; he preceded her in death on October 11, 2003. She worked at KHAS Radio, Hastings, NE. with various positions and duties, and 20 years as a grade school secretary at Longfellow and Hawthorne Schools. Carmen was a member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral, Hastings, NE. where she served as Vestry, Senior Warden, and 22 years on the Alter Guild. She enjoyed playing bridge with many bridge clubs, golfing, dancing, fishing, and traveling. Carmen was an avid Cornhusker football ticket holder for over 30 years and attended home and away games.
Carmen was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Eugene "Gene" Way Burchess and brother, Norman Van Sickle.
