WILLSBORO — Rita E. Benedict, 89, died Monday, Jan. 28, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Willsboro, N.Y., the daughter of Craig and Margaret (Wood) Garvey.
Rita graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1942 and continued her education at Plattsburgh Business Institute, graduating in 1943. She worked for several years as a bookkeeper for Horace Nye Home of Essex County until her retirement in 1982.
She remained active in her community as a member of Willsboro United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and the Willsboro Heritage Society.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert "Rick" Benedict (Christine) Marshall Benedict, all of Willsboro, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Robert L. Benedict.
Services will be held in the spring at Memorial Cemetery in Willsboro. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Willsboro United Methodist Church, PO Box 369, Willsboro, NY 12996 or to the Willsboro Rescue Squad, PO Box 332, Willsboro NY, 12996.
Arrangements are in the care of W.M. Marvin's Sons funeral home in Elizabethtown.
