Bessie Adams, 83, long time Guymon resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1991 at the Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
The daughter of James and Sarah Burton, she was born in Beaver County, Oklahoma March 12, 1908.
Bessie and Duane K. Adams were married July 25, 1930 at Texhoma, Okla. He preceded her in death on Nov 2, 1990.
She moved to Guymon from Beaver County in 1930. She was a homemaker and school teacher for 40 years., retiring in 1973 from the Guymon school system. She was an active member of the Guymon First Baptist Church. She served as Sunday School teacher, in the church choir, training union, the W.M.U.and several church committees. She was a member of Sigma Phi Club.
Mrs. Adams was a graduate of Panhandle State University. She received graduate studies from Oklahoma University, Oklahoma State University and North Western State University.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, James Duane Adams; four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include one son, Laddie R. Adams and his wife Nita of Bethany, Okla.; two grandchildren, Gerald Adams and his wife Leesa of Shawnee,, Okla. and Jana and her husband Patrick Countryman of Bethany; one great-grandson, Zachary Adams of Shawnee; one brother, Darvin Burton of Sacramento, Calif; and four sisters, Ethel DeLoach of Lamar, Color., Lucille Waldrop of Guymon, Marie Shults of Guymon, Elsie Garrett of Satsuma, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. from the Guymon First Baptist Church with Dr. Denny Autrey and Dr. Clyde Cain, officiating
Interment will be in the Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home.
