Fred immigrated from Friedenstal, Bessarabia via Bremmen, Germany to New York, New York on March 25, 1902 with his family. On his Declaration of Intention to become a naturalized citizen, he lists his complexion as light, height 5 feet 8 inches, weight as 180 pounds, hair color as brown, and eye color as gray.

Fred's first wife (Friedericka Schmidt) died during or after an operation for what was thought to be a ruptured appendix. Elgin Coffman believes it may have been an infection or complication caused by a miscarriage/stillbirth based on conversation with Fred. Note: They had been married 1-3 months at time of her death. She was buried without a grave marker and he moved on rather quickly according to McCluskey article listed below.

Fred Aichele and Martha Buchmiller applied for a marriage license in McClusky, Sheridan Co, North Dakota and were married on March 20, 1911 according to the Application for a Marriage License and and the Marriage Licence. The witnesses were Martha's oldest brother Heinrich Buchmiller and Fred's brother Jacob Aichele (signed J.J. Aichele). The Judge of the County Court misspelled Aichele a number of times on both documents. The "E" of Eichele was overprinted with an "A" on most lines. It was left as Eichele on the Marriage License and on one line of the application. Both Jacob and Fred spelled the name Aichele in their signatures. She was 18 and he was 23 at the time of their marriage.

Fred and Martha came to Oregon in 1921 after suffering hail, grasshopper infestations, and drought in North Dakota. Fred's brother Ludwig lived at a granary near Freewater. They lived in Freewater for six years and then returned to North Dakota for one winter. It was a hard winter and Fred spent most of his money on coal and food. They returned to Oregon in May 1926. On the way, the family was caught in a major snowstorm in Great Falls, Montana and stayed in a band shell until it was possible to continue traveling.

Aichele, A Man of Action
McClusky Gazette: Fred Aichele of Hurdsfield, is a man of action. He is a party who believes in short courtships and also in short mourning. Fred was married to Miss Fredda M. Schmidt on Nov. 25, 1910. His wife died on the operating table at Goodrich on Feb. 15, 1911. On March 18, 1911, or to be exact, just 31 days after her death, Fred was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Marguerite Buchmiller at the courthouse in this city. Fred Aichele is a man of action.
