Death of A. M. Bailey
Alonzo Moody Bailey was born at Willmington, Essex county, New York, December 31, 1823 and died at Hampton, Iowa July, 17, 1903. In 1831 he moved with his parents to Madison county, Ohio, and at the age of fifteen he was apprenticed to the tailor's trade having been rendered lame through life due to an injury sustained in his infancy. In 1845 he again removed to Ottawa, Illinois, where he was married to Francis L. Grow, who only lived a year after marriage, their only child dying in early infancy. He was married to Esther Prescott, September 4, 1851 and to them were born nine children, three sons and six daughters. The sons are Frank A., of Hampton, Theodore G. and George A. of Austin, Minnesota. The daughters are Eve, who died in 1870, and Mrs. Thos. Foughty, Mrs. C. H. Barrett and Mrs. C. L. Emmons of Hampton, Mrs. H.C. Deal, of Gillett, Arkansas, and Mrs. Alice Cunningham of McCook Nebraska. All were present at the funeral service but the last two named.
Mrs. Bailey died in 1873 and in July of 1881 he was again married to Elizabeth Knight, who survives him. Mr. Bailey came from Ottawa in 1865 and settled for six years on a farm near Sheffield (Iowa) then moved to Hampton (Iowa) and engaged in the tailoring business. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church last Monday, conducted by Rev. W.W. Patengill. Besides the relatives already mentioned, there were present from out of town, Mrs. London, a sister of Mrs. Bailey's, her son, Chas, London, of Clarksville and Mrs. Bailey's brother, Henry, also of Clarksville.

Death of A. M. Bailey
After a lingering illness, the last six months being a time of entire helplessness, A.M. Bailey died at his residence in Hampton at a late hour Friday evening, July 17th.
Alonzo Moody Bailey was born at Willimgton, Essex county, New York, Dec. 31, 1823, so that if he could have lived his year out he would have been 80 years old. In 1831 his parents removed to Madison county, Ohio, and when he was about fifteen years of age, he was apprenticed to the tailor's trade, he having been injured when about five years old so as to render him lame through life. In the spring of 1845 he removed to Ottawa, Ill. and was married there to Frances L. Grow, who only lived a year after marriage, their only child dying in early infancy.
Sept. 4, 1851 he was married to Esther Prescott and to them were born nine children, three sons and six daughters. The sons are Frank A. of Hampton, and Theodore G. and George A. of Austin, Minn. The daughters are Eva, who died in 1870, and Mrs. Stella Foughty, Mrs. Jennie Harrett and Mrs. Mattie Emmons, all of Hampton, Mrs. H. C. Deal of Gillett, Ark and Mrs. Alice Cunningham of McCook, Neb. All but the last two named were present at the funeral services.
Mrs. Bailey died in 1878, and in July, 1881, he was again married to Elizabeth Knight, who survives him. In 1865 Mr. Bailey and family came from Ottawa to a farm near where Sheffield is now, but after five or six years trial he was compelled to give it up on account of his crippled condition and he came to Hampton where he has since resided up to the time of his death. Until recent years he carried on the tailoring business and with fair success accumulating some property and a good home. His reputation was that of an honest and well meaning man, and he left no enemies behind him. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Hampton, of which organization he was a member, on Monday last, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.W. Pattergill. Besides the relatives already mentioned, there were present from out of town, Mrs. London, a sister of Mrs. Bailey, from Clarksville, her son, Chas. London of Clarksville, and Mrs. Bailey's brother, Henry Knight, also of Clarksville.
