Joseph R. "Joe" Pisony, 81, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, Jul. 14, 2011, in Affinity Medical Center, Massillon, of complications from a recent heart surgery.

Born Jan. 25, 1930, in Roswell, he was a son of the late John and Julia Popelus Pisony. Joe attended New Philadelphia High School, and, on Jul. 27, 1948, he married the former Dolores Mowrer in Sacred Heart Church, New Philadelphia. The couple would have celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary later this month.

Joe was employed by the City of New Philadelphia for thirty-three years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of New Philadelphia's Sacred Heart Church.

Some of Joe's happiest days were spent camping and fishing at Clendening Lake with his family. He taught all of his grandchildren about fish and fishing. Joe was a gardener, growing vegetables for his family's use as well as beautiful flowers. He was a fixture at the McDonald's on W. High, enjoying breakfast there nearly every day. Joe also loved Tuscora Park and taking his grandchildren there when they were young.

In addition to his loving wife, Dolores, Joe will be sadly missed by his family, which includes his son, Daniel R. (Evelyn) Pisony of New Philadelphia; his four daughters, Connie Gross and Cathryn (Gary) McRobie, both of New Philadelphia, Jody (Melvin) Ash of Venice, Fla., and Janie Porcher of Dover; ten grandchildren, of whom he was most proud, Robbie (Teresa) Gross, Danny J. (fiancée, Wendy McElhaney) Pisony, Melody Richardson, Tracy (Dennis) Kohlstedt, Gary (Kimberly) McRobie, Deanna (James) Miller, Katie Porcher, Becky (A.P.) Ren, Dawn Gross and Rachel Pisony; fifteen great-grandchildren; his sister and brother, Esther Beans and Albert (Virginia) Pisony, both of New Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Barry Porcher; seven sisters and one brother.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, on Sunday, Jul. 17, 2 – 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday, Jul. 18, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Fr. Jeff Coning officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia.

Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Joe, please visit the funeral home's website and click on Obituaries.
