Mr. Barnes was born Nov. 19, 1908, in Hebron, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Portland after the war and worked at a lumber mill for several years before taking a job with Portland's street maintenance department. He moved to a small farm in the Canby area after his retirement in 1970 and then moved to Woodburn in the early 1980s. His wife, Merry, died in 1979.
Survivors include his daughter, Sylvia of San Francisco; son, Douglas of Oregon City; and one grandchild.
Interment will be in Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland.
