Paul was born in Crestline on September 26, 1925 to the late Harold P. and Garnet L. (Wion) Algire. He married Donna J. Klein on February 21, 1969 and she survives him.
Paul was retired from the State of Ohio Department of Transportation in Marion. He was a 1942 graduate of Crestline High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII on the USS Talamanca. He was a member of the VFW Post # 2920, Crestline and the American Legion Harley Helfrich Post # 488, Crestline. He enjoyed sports and particularly watching his grandchildren play. He loved to garden and enjoyed going to the VFW every morning for coffee and conversation with his friends.
He is survived by four sons and a daughter: Dick (Deb) Algire, Mt. Gilead, Doug (Linda) Algire, SC, Ted (Shirley) Algire, Hong Kong, Kim Schroeder, Galion and Rick (Babette) Ronk, Crestline, son-in-law Stephen Kurtzman, Crestline, sixteen grandchildren: Jennifer Andrews, SC, Lynlee (Pete) Dzugan, Ontario, Andrew Algire, Columbus, Adrian Algire, Michael Algire, Aimee Algire, Catherine Algire, Christine Algire, Ted Algire, Jr., Heather (Dave) Snyder, Galion, Amanda (Trevor) Moyer, Meghan Ronk, Chad Schroeder, Natalie Ronk, Connor Kurtzman, and Karlie Kurtzman, all of Crestline; four great-grandchildren: Theresa Dzugan, and Peyton Dzugan, Ontario, Cameron Snyder, Galion, and Makenna Moyer, Crestline; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, James Algire, his daughter, Kelly Kurtzman, his son, Jeff Ronk, and his sister, Marjorie Belford.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline, with Deacon William Horning officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Crestline/Galion Veteran's Organizations will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline.
