Funeral services for Vernon F. Adair, 41, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday from the Prince St. Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. T.J. Gamble, Jr., pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.A. Long of Hagerman. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery, with Wolf and Roberts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be R.B. Benner, Joe Dennington, J.J. Johnston, Clarence Waller, Penn Stanford and J.L. Kim.

Adair, who was born in Texas and has worked for the Santa Fe some 14 years, is survived by his wife, Frances, three daughters, Texalee, Mary Kathryn and Sheresa, and four sons, Dwain, Larry Ray, Leslie Dale and Robert Glenn, all of the home at 19 Pineway Blvd.; his father, Tom Adair, San Saba, Tex., two brothers, Ray and Harold Adair, both of Tucson, Ariz.; and six sisters, Mr. [sic] Lillian Sellers, Mrs. Pauline McCarty, Mrs. Marie Rainbolt and Mrs. Louise Andrews, all of San Saba, Mrs. Ruby Williams, Ballinger, Tex., and Mrs. Virgie Cotham, Waco, Tex

His parents-in-law are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Rea, Clovis.

Services Conducted For Train Brakeman

FLOYDADA, July 7 (Special) - Funeral services for Vernon Adair, about 42, former Floydada resident who was killed in a flaming train wreckage Tuesday near Fort Sumner, N.M., were to be conducted at 3 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Clovis, N.M.

Adair lived here when a small boy with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Adair. The family moved here from Crosbyton in 1920, and from there to Muleshoe.

Five persons perished in the wreckage and three more were injured when two Santa Fe Railway freight trains smashed head-on. Adair was head brakeman on the westbound train.

Adair is survived by his wife and six children, all of Clovis, N.M.; his father of San Saba; and two brothers and six sisters, uncles, R.M. and C.O. Spence.
