He was the son of Thomas Marion and Addie (Hopper) Barnes and married Sally O'Neal - 22 Aug 1918 - Lincoln Co., Tennessee. His obituary follows:

Luther Barnes, father of Lincoln County magistrate Harod Barnes of the Red Oak community, died Wednesday morning in the Maury County Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee. He was 79 years old.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Oaks and Nickols Funeral Home in Columbia with the Rev. Burns Drake of Huntsville officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Memorial Gardens, Fayetteville, with the funeral procession to arrive in Fayetteville at approximately 4 p.m.

A native of Lincoln County, Mrs. Barnes was the son of the late Thomas Marion and Addie Hopper Barnes. He was a retired Tennessee Valley Authority employee, and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors, in addition to his son, include his widow, Mrs. Sally O'Neal Barnes, and a daughter, Mrs. J. C. Parks, both of Columbia; a granddaughter, Mrs. Danny Burt, also of Columbia; one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
