Antonio Alves, Jr., 90, of Bethlehem, died on Friday, July 15, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Fall River, MA; the son of the late Antonio and Clementina (Lopes) Alves. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this past December. Antonio worked for Bethlehem Steel in the Coke Works Division. He was a member of Holy Infancy Catholic Church, The Mora Club, American Legion and The Portuguese American Club. He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army where he received a purple heart. Survivors:Antonio will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Silvina; son, Antonio A. Alves, III; daughters, Gloria A., wife of Charles Peck and Dolores A., wife of Jeffrey Johns and his grandchildren, Christina Scripps, Jeffrey Johns, Jr., Jennifer Johns and Cassandra Peck-Stephenson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jose Alves. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Holy Infancy Catholic Church, 312 E. Fourth St. Bethlehem, PA 18015. Visitation will be from 8-9:15 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
