Helen R. "Elsie" Betcher, age 85 of Hemlock Street, Sugar Notch, died on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Celtic Health Center, Geisinger South Wilkes Barre.

Elsie, as she was fondly known, was born in Ashley on June 18, 1927, the daughter of the late Ignatius and Steffie (Andrulewicz) Cooper.

She was a lifetime resident of Sugar Notch, where she attended the Sugar Notch area schools. She was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch, and was very devoted to her religion. Elsie enjoyed cooking, baking and trips to Atlantic City.

Preceding her in death were brothers, Benjamin Sokoloski and John Cooper; sisters, Anna Yurkoski, Mary Radecki and Stella Jackowski.

Surviving is her husband of 62 years of marriage, Henry T. Betcher, at home. Henry and Elsie met at the Palace Laundry, Wilkes Barre, where they were both employed at the time.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the George A. Strish, Funeral Home, Ashley. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. from Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
