He was wounded in action Mar. 1945 and was decorated with the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medal. He returned to Iowa but later moved to Washington State and worked as a heavy equipment operator on many projects including the Grand Coulee Dam.
On June 13, 1953, he was united in marriage to Barbara June Spence. To this marriage two children were born; Duane Martin Cary b. Aug. 23, 1954 in Coeur d'Alene, ID , d. Aug. 13, 1979, and Cheryl Kaye Cary Adamson b. Sep. 13, 1955 Belle Fourche, SD.
He is survived by a sister, Juanita Marie Cary Himes of Marshalltown, Iowa.
