Joseph William "Billy" Amiss, Jr., 74, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Runk & Pratt Residential Adult Care. He was the devoted husband of Joan Perez Amiss for fifty-five years. Born April 6, 1938 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Joseph William Amiss Sr. and Elise Hudson Amiss and was also preceded in death by one son, Timothy Dean Amiss. Billy was a retired welder with Boiler Makers Local 45 and was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was a member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church. In addition to his wife, Billy is survived by two daughters, Judy Amiss Reynolds (Steve Breedlove) of Big Island and Sharon Amiss Hodges (Tony) of Appomattox; one brother, Carroll Amiss (Carole) of Lynchburg; two sisters, Betty Jo Steuart (Jimmy) of Madison Heights and Jean Kostka of Sun City Center, FL; three grandchildren, Naomi Reynolds, Kristen Baker, and Andrea Hodges and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Baker and Alex Layne.

A memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Chris King officiating. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Assoc. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. David Haga, Dr. Peter Betz, Monelison Family Physicians, and to the staffs of Runk & Pratt and Centra Hospice.
