PROMINENT CITIZEN
DIED MONDAY MORNING
John H. Kendall, born November 5, at Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, died at his home in Strong City, December 22, 1924, aged 65 years, 1 month and 17 days. He moved to Texas while in his latter teens. In the late 80s he united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Bettie Harper at Navarro Texas, and to this union were born seven children, six of whom survive, Floyd dying at the early age of 2 years. The remaining children Mrs. Willie West of Strong City; Mrs. J. N. Cross of Cheyenne; Mrs. Henry Warren of Cheyenne; Mrs. Cobb of Norman; Lela, Bessie and Ray who remain at home with Mrs. Kendall, were all at the bed side of the deceased when he passed away early Monday morning.
The funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock after which the Masonic fraternity of which he had been an ardent member took charge of the body and performed the last rites conferred upon a mason.
Mr. Kendall moved to Oklahoma in 1901 and located on a farm near Strong City later he moved to Cheyenne and engaged in the furniture business, later he moved to Strong City and continued in his same line of business. He was also engaged in the banking business both at Cheyenne and Strong City, being on the board of directors of both banks. He also served the people of Strong City for a number of years as postmaster.
As a citizen, a husband and father, every one had a word of praise for Mr. Kendall. He was always found on the side of right of every moral question and was one of the most public spirited men we have ever had. His friends were numbered by the score and they mourn with the bereaved in this sad hour.
While a young man he united with the Baptist church and has been one of the most loyal members the church has ever had.
For many years Mr. Kendall has suffered from a glandular trouble having made two trips to Mayo Bros. At Rochester, Minn. Where he was treated. Just one week before his demise he returned from Oklahoma City where he had been for medical aid. At first his trouble was in the glands of the throat but during the past year there has been a general breaking down of the gland throughout the body which caused his death.
In addition to the wife and children he leaves two brothers, T. M. of Cheyenne and W. D. of Strong City, several grand children and a number of nephews and nieces.
The editor joins the friends of the bereaved in extending sympathy all those who are sad at heart because of this death.
