Savannah – Statesboro, GA – As known by many, "Mom" Kramer, age 84, of Savannah, GA was called home by Jesus on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. She was surrounded by her four loving daughters, her son, and precious family, as they sang her away on the journey to her eternal home. There she was reunited with her husband, Johnny Kramer, her father and mother, Lewis and Anna Shelton, her two sisters and brothers, and many friends.
She was born November 17, 1928 in Halifax, Virginia and married in 1945 to Johnny Kramer. In 1963, she began a non-profit ministry called the Encouragers, and was the patriarch and an active part of this ministry for the last 50 years. Through her singing, songwriting and testimony, she ministered to hundreds of thousands as she traveled all across America singing the Gospel. She was a partner in creating the Great American Gospel television program and could be seen performing all across America and in 200 countries. She also played the guitar, piano, and harmonica. Not only did she love gospel music, she loved to cook, travel, shop, and spend time with her family.
She is survived by four daughters and one son; Linda (Jim) Stalnaker of Statesboro, GA; Lois (Steve) Chavis of Orlando, Fl; Shirley (Henry) Quick of Statesboro, GA; Tina (Ray) Edwards of Savannah, and Danny (Dee) Kramer of Black Creek, GA. She is also survived by nine loving grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Visitation for friends and family will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. and Mom will lie in state one hour before at Countryside Baptist Church, at1201 Noel C. Conaway Road, Guyton, GA with the Rev. Terry Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens on Hwy 80 in Statesboro, GA.
Mom Kramer was truly a saint of God and vigilant prayer warrior. Mom often said that she wanted God to call her home while she was singing his praises.
On Tuesday, December 18, 2012, while performing and helping to raise food items for needy families in Coastal Georgia, God took her home before her very last song. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, charitable donations be sent to the Encouragers Society to help keep Gospel music on television and help the ministry supply food to hungry children and families in Savannah and 20 Georgia communities.
