WATERBURY — Mr. Federico "Fred" M. Barbieri, 70, of 310 Highland Ave., passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marie (Sciarra) Barbieri.

Fred was born in Cerreto Sannita, Benevento, Italy, on Dec. 1, 1942, son of the late Antimo and Ida (Grillo) Barbieri. He came to the United States in 1960 and settled in Waterbury. He was a laborer and executive board member with the Local 390 Union, having worked many years for Waterbury Foundation. He also worked for Waterbury Concrete and he retired from Brass City Concrete in 1996.

He was a member of the Portuguese Sport Club of Waterbury. He enjoyed horse racing and spending time at the Cafe Italia playing cards with his friends. He loved Sunday dinner's with his family, drinking his homemade wine, and cooking and eating Italian specialties with his family and friends.

Besides his wife, Marie, of 50 years, Fred leaves two sons, Antimo "Andy" Barbieri and his wife, Diane, of Naugatuck, and Michael Barbieri of Waterbury; a daughter, Ida Leone and her husband, Joseph, of Bristol; three grandchildren, Ashley Barbieri of Naugatuck, and Anthony Leone and Joseph Leone, both of Bristol; and a niece, Caterina Paolella of Lodi, Italy. Besides several cousins in Italy, he leaves an aunt, Vita Barbieri of Waterbury, and three local cousins, Fred Barbieri and his wife, Rosemarie, and family, of Waterbury, Louisa Gennari and her husband, Sergio, of Middle Village, N.Y., and Fred Barbieri and his wife, Norma, and family, of New Haven. He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Antonia (Barbieri) Paolella.

Arrangements: Funeral will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
