Kingsport - George "Pete" Boyd, Sr. of Mount Carmel joined his loved ones in Heaven early Sunday morning (February 25, 2007) at Sunbridge Hillside Rehab Center following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County.

Pete retired from the Ironworkers Local Union #384 with over 42 years of service. In his younger days, Pete enjoyed riding motorcycles & flying airplanes. He was a ham radio operator with his call letters being KB4PPI. He was also very involved with CB radios. He was an avid hunter & loved to fish. Mr. Boyd was a charter member of the Church Hill Lifesaving Crew.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Trent Boyd in 2005; his son, Tom Boyd; parents, Joe & Sally Bailey Boyd; a daughter-in-law, Betty Cook Boyd and a brother, Larry Boyd.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Allen & her husband, Steve (Kingsport); a son, Dan Boyd (North Augusta, SC); a daughter-in-law, Sandra Boyd (Mount Carmel); 5 grandchildren, Tom Boyd & his wife, Kim, Deeana Boyd, Amy Boyd, Stephanie Bartley & her husband, Josh, Eric Allen; 3 great grandchildren; his 4 sisters, Juanita Meece & her husband, Jim (Blountville), Bobbie Jo Salley & her husband, Ed (Church Hill), Helen Shelton & her husband, Bill (Kingsport), Johnnie Sue Ireson & her husband, Bill (Bristol, VA); a brother, Garnie Boyd (Church Hill) along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday (February 26, 2007) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill or friends may also call anytime at the residences of the daughter, Sherry (Steve) Allen or the daughter-in-law, Sandra Boyd.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday (February 26, 2007) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Calvin Tabor officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday (February 27, 2007) at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend the graveside service is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.

The family would like to extend a special thank you goes to Sunbridge Hillside Rehab Center, especially Rosie, Ola, Susan & Debbie; also, to a special friend, Garland Arnold and to everyone who made special visits, phone calls, prayers & sent cards to Pete.
