Debbie Blakley, 49, passed through the veil to her Heavenly Father's embrace surrounded by her family at her home on December 28, 2004, after a long and valiant battle with breast cancer.
Born Debra Dianne on January 14, 1955, to Kenneth McGee and Shirley Moncrief McGee in Fairbanks, Alaska, she was the third of four blond and bubbly daughters. She graduated from Permian High School in May 1973, and married the love of her life since ninth grade, Neil Blakley, on June 30, 1973. Neil and Debbie shared 31 years of marriage together and lovingly raised their three children with humor and devotion.
Debbie decorated her world and all those she touched with poignant beauty, grace, and design. As a master artist and muralist, she created breathtaking scenes that reflected a soul not bound by time nor space. Her home always provided inspiring samplings of her abundant talent as well as homes and businesses all over the country that have been blessed to become an enduring part of her legacy-some of which have been featured in Texas Monthly and. Her art led her many directions throughout her career. Trained by the FBI, she was one of the very few and very elite composite artists that have been awarded a Federal Grant to work with various Texas police departments, particularly the Odessa Police Department, in solving numerous high profile cases. She was a nationally known courtroom artist and was even a feature story on Entertainment Tonight for her coverage of the Zsa Zsa Gabor trial.
In spite of her notoriety and high demand, Debbie never lost her love for simplicity. Life's greatest pleasures were her family and friends. "The more the merrier," she regularly said and no one could know Debbie and not adore her.
Debbie was preceded in death by both her parents. Among the great many who will miss her terribly are her husband, Neil Blakley of Wimberley; her daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Byron Geyman of Austin; her sons, Clint Blakley of Houston and Bryan Blakley of Brady; and her sisters, Linda McCann and family of Tyler, Donna Walker and family of Odessa, and Pam White of Houston. Her family by marriage, Dennis Shirk and family of Kingston, Oklahoma, Brenda Sullivan and family of Mustang, OK, and Lanis Carlson and family of Midland.
Services will be held Friday, December 31, 2004, at Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley with burial at Onion Creek Memorial Park in Austin, TX. Memorials may be sent to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston
