Mr. William Max "Bill" Dixon, Sr., age 87, of Forest Hills Drive, Boone, passed away Sunday night, December 2, 2012 at his home. Born December 20, 1924, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Edgar William and Sara Gantt Dixon. Mr. Dixon was a retired postal clerk. Bill was an active member of Boone United Methodist Church, serving on the church council, as a trustee and a long time member of the United Methodist Men. He was a WWII Veteran, having served in the US Navy. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and his church.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Dixon Ford and husband Larry of Raleigh and Beth Dixon Layton and husband Richard of Lewisville and one son, Bill Dixon, Jr. and wife Christal Neaves of Boone. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Laura Ford Thomas and husband Wesley, Sarah Ford White and husband Matthew, Emily Ford Yoon and husband John, Adam Dixon Layton and special friend Rachel Siegel, Anna Katherine Layton, Daniel William Layton, Ahana Reck, Annie Neaves, Ava Reck, and Finley Dixon and three great grandchildren, Emily, William and Jonathan Thomas; one sister, Betty Dixon Lail and husband Arnold of Shelby and a special cousin, Joan Peeler and husband Charles.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Lee Hodges Dixon.

Funeral services for Mr. William Max "Bill" Dixon will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Boone United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jason Byasse and Jeffrey McClain. The family will receive friends following the service until 3:30 at the church. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130 will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Boone United Methodist Church, 471 New Market Boulevard, Boone, NC 28607.
